Port of Miami Tunnel Overburden Wall Project Details
For one of the more unique temporary applications of GeoTrel™, in 2011 RECo supplied MSE walls for use in tunneling operations at the Port of Miami Tunnel project. Purely for construction purposes, the walls were constructed above the ends of the proposed new tunnel on either end, for the purpose of providing the overburden load needed to begin the tunnel excavation.
Additional permanent MSE walls were used for the roadway widening portion on the site. The proximity of the project to the port’s salt water factored into the use of GeoStrap® geosynthetic soil reinforcements.
