Elba Island LNG Terminal Expansion with Back-to-Back MSE Walls
Completed in 2010, this project featured back-to-back MSE walls, for the purpose of protection against spillage from the liquid natural gas (LNG) storage tanks. Not only are the MSE walls designed for the required lateral pressure to contain a spill, but in the event that the LNG combusts after spilling, the wall materials will withstand the extreme heat and fire. Temporary wire mesh MSE walls were integrated for phased construction of the long permanent walls. Ground improvement on the site was performed by Menard Group USA.
