Gravity Retaining Wall

A gravity retaining wall uses the dead weight of the facing material to resist lateral earth pressure. Gravity retaining walls can be constructed with a variety of materials such as segmental blocks, stone masonry, and cast-in-place concrete. RECo’s gravity wall system uses thin precast panels that are cast with an integral hollow box on the rear side. The boxes are filled with select backfill, giving the wall sufficient weight for stability.

The simple construction procedure involves preparing a leveling pad using unreinforced concrete or select backfill, setting the facing panels with the hollow boxes aligned, filling the boxes at vertical intervals, and finally backfilling behind the structure.

Benefits:

  • A simple solution for walls with a relatively low height
  • Construction speed. Each facing panel set is the equivalent of 25 segmental blocks
  • Will match the appearance of an MSE wall
  • Form liners or elaborate murals can customize the aesthetics
